Who We Are
The Ebony Pearls Foundation, Incorporated, a Mississippi 501(c)(3) organization, was established in 1998 by the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated ®, Rho Lambda Omega Chapter, as the philanthropic arm of the Chapter. The Foundation expanded its work and mission and now operates independently of the Rho Lambda Omega Chapter. Both organizations remain dedicated to serving the citizens of Hinds, Madison, and Rankin Counties and you will often find both organizations working collaboratively with various social, civic, and charitable projects. The Calendar Girl Cotillion, EmpowerHER Conference, All-White Affair, Partners in Education, Habitat for Humanity, adoption of the NCBA Senior Living Facility, and Youth Mentoring Programs are some of the exceptional programs that the two organizations have worked collaboratively to support our communities of service.
The Foundation has its own officers and Board of Directors, which administers its affairs and implements its programs and policies. The Foundation holds regular meetings and an Annual Meeting.
One of the major projects of the Foundation's major project is providing academic scholarships to high school seniors in Hinds, Madison, and Rankin counties. Since its formation, the Foundation has awarded in excess of $210,000 in scholarships. Awarding scholarships is a priority service for the Foundation in its efforts to enhance the quality of life for the citizens we are committed to serving.
A major accomplishment of the Foundation in 2023 was the purchase the 12,000 sq. ft. building at 5959 I55N West Frontage Road in Jackson, MS, now known as The Ivy Pointe. This facility will be utilized to host most of the Foundation’s programs and initiatives.
